In a number of ways, Brett Goldstein‘s first day working with Jason Segel was unforgettable.
The Ted Lasso star joined the cast of season 2, which debuted in October, of Apple TV+’s Shrinking, which she co-created with Segel, 44, and Bill Lawrence.

Since it was their first time appearing together in front of the camera, Goldstein, 44, acknowledged that he “didn’t know how Jason was gonna be” in the moment. But even Goldstein couldn’t have foreseen the conclusion of the tense scene.
“If you haven’t watched it, Jason Segel was severely traumatized by an act I committed on the first day, and I have since apologized to him for it. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on November 14, Goldstein recounted, “And he shouts, shouts, basically tells me to f— off, a lot.”
Brett Goldstein added, “We performed the scene and he yells, yells, yells, and it was really dramatic.” However, between takes, he spat so much on me that…The continuity people said, “This is like too much spit,” even though I was being true to my persona. This has to be fixed.
Regardless, it was an exciting move for Brett Goldstein to join Shrinking after working behind the camera on its first season, and Segel himself anticipated it.
At the season 2 premiere last month, Segel remarked of his co-star, “Brett’s capable of doing anything and I knew secretly that he wanted to play that part and I knew he would kill it.”
Goldstein portrays Louis Winston, who turns out to be the intoxicated motorist who killed Segel’s character’s wife.
