Yellowstone concluded its five-season run with a tragic death and a number of twists and turns.
In the season 5 part 2 opener, patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) was assassinated, and his family vowed to exact revenge. In the series conclusion, Kelly Reilly’s character Beth Dutton fulfilled her commitment to conserve the land and hold her father’s killers accountable.
Kelly Reilly’s character in Yellowstone, the recent update on the new episode
In the first scene, brother Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) proceeds with the idea he came up with in the previous week to sell the Yellowstone acreage to the Broken Rock Reservation.
High Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) tells Kayce that his family is unable to pay the ranch’s inheritance tax.
He makes Rainwater an offer to sell the land for the $1.25 per acre that it was worth when his forefathers purchased it. “When they took it, it sold for that amount. And I’ll give you that amount.”
Additionally, he adds two requirements: that East Camp remain for his family and that Yellowstone never be developed or sold. Rainwater adds, “We have laws that prohibit us from selling our land, Kayce.”
Kelly Reilly assures Kayce that he will treat the property with respect. “It’s sacred and that is how we will treat it.”
After hurriedly returning home, she gets dressed and leaves in her car. Her spouse, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), discovers her destination one hour later. He begins to chase after her, but she beats Rip to her adoptive brother Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) residence.
After giving a speech in which he promises to continue his father’s legacy, Jamie goes home. As she tackles him with pepper spray, Beth, who is waiting, knocks him over his head.
Kelly Reilly starts striking her in the face and fighting her fiercely. He kicks her to the ground and she strikes him over the head with a crow bar as he attempts to rinse his eyes from the spray.
In the last scene, Beth and Rip are shown enjoying their new, peaceful surroundings on their new property while laying the groundwork for a possible spinoff of their new life in Dillon.
