Prince’s sister and only full sibling, musician Tyka Nelson, passed away at the age of 64.

Prince’s only full sibling, Minneapolis musician Tyka Nelson, passed away on Monday at North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, according to President Nelson, Prince’s son, who told The Associated Press. She was sixty-four.

President Tyka Nelson stated that he does not anticipate knowing the cause of death “for a couple of days.”

Born in 1960, two years after Prince, to jazz musician John L. Tyka Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw, Nelson was a singer-songwriter who released four albums during her career, beginning with “Royal Blue” in 1988. Her biggest singles from that album were “Marc Anthony’s Tune,” which peaked at No. 33 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list after 11 weeks, and “L.O.V.E.

It serves as a substitute for her brother’s preferred shade of purple. The funniest part about their connection, she remarked, is when people ask, ‘How does it feel to be Prince’s sister?’ In reality, they have no idea what they’re saying. Ever since I arrived on this planet, I have been Prince’s sister.

Her “Royal Blue” album, according to the Associated Press, is “mostly adult-contemporary or easy-listening” and “far removed from Prince and the so-called Minneapolis sound.” She targets people between the ages of 25 and 45 with her mature, romantic tone.

Then followed “Yellow Moon, Red Sky” in 1992. “A Brand New Me” from 2008 and, lastly, “Hustler” from 2011.

Five grandkids and two sons, President and Sir, survive Nelson.

Nelson was supposed to retire and play a final show at the Dakota in downtown Minneapolis in June, according to the Star Tribune.

She didn’t take the stage because she was sick. She said a few days prior to the performance that she was working on a memoir and had a mixtape in the works.

In 2016, Prince passed away at his Minneapolis residence after an unintentional fentanyl overdose. He was fifty-seven. His six siblings acquired equal shares in the inheritance because he left no will.

The three youngest, Tyka Nelson, Baker, and Jackson, sold their share to Primary Wave Music, LLC, a music publishing company, which then transferred its rights to Prince OAT Holdings LLC, an affiliate. Since then, Jackson has passed away.
